Iso E Super

Is a type of synthetic ketone — a chemical derived from the oxidation of a secondary alcohol — with notable aromatic properties. It is used extensively in the world of fragrance production, with practical uses in the soap, shampoo, deodorant, cleaning, and freshener industries, as well as being popular in perfumery as an ingredient in many types of perfumes. The aroma of the compound is woody and resinous in texture, bearing many similarities with both sandalwood and cedarwood alike. A fairly recent development, the synthetic note is actually a trademarked compound, with the name Iso E Super being the formal trademark name of aromachemical 7-acetyl, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8-octahydro-1,1,6,7-tetramethyl naphthalene. It was created to possess a unique set of qualities that when worn, create an aromatic surface that is smooth to touch. The fragrance instantly spreads and radiates abstract and unique aromas from the wearers skin — a feature very sought after in many modern perfume fragrances. The aroma is characteristically smooth and woody, with certain degrees of depth and warmth coming from various complex amber elements, whilst also possessing pleasant hints of sweetness.

The scent features elements endemic to other fragrances, which have been incorporated and added to the profile of the Iso E Super. The wafting nature of violet is also found in Iso E Super, where the aromas arise pleasantly, and then seemingly vanish — very characteristic of violet. Alone, the scent is far from cumbersome — perhaps even unnoticeable. Yet when added to compositions, it can impart qualities that grant the compositions certain levels of depth and complexness that weren’t there before. The scent is also reactive to the warmth found on the surface of the skin, and smells remarkably different when applied on paper.

Iso E Super is also added to compositions to boost the life of the aromas, as well as to strengthen their integrity. It blends well with many aromas from a variety of fragrance families, with certain types like musk and floral seeming to pair the best.
