Used to describe the level of potency in a fragrance, or rather, the degree to which the fragrance lingers. It refers to how well a fragrance develops an aura around the wearer, or area it is used in.

A wearer may wish to wear a fragrance that possesses high sillage, if their desire is to have the fragrance leave a lingering imprint everywhere they have imposed their presence. Conversely, a wearer who seeks a low sillage fragrance may wish so, because they desire an aroma that is subtle; only lingering ever so slightly.
